Yesterday started off with a resplendent morning. The cloudless, clear blue sky resembled a borderless, flawless piece of pale blue silk. I went to school as usual on this beautiful morning.
Yesterday was the 1st of November 2007, a few weeks just after the Year End Examination; all students in Senior Middle One had to go to the hall. There was a seminar by a few VIP from LLG Cultural Development Centre BHD.
The seminar briefed us about the history or education in Malaysia and why we (Chinese) must protect our Chinese medium schools. They introduced a teacher—Lim Lian Geok (1901-1985) we called him “Chinese Spirit” –who lost his citizenship and teacher’s license in 1960 because he protected our Chinese Medium Schools.
I learned to love our country and protect our culture. After school, I rushed to a tuition class with my friends because we had to come back early for dinner.
After tuition we returned to school on time and I changed instantly to prepare for the Year-end Party—I participate in a few dances for this party. My friends and I enjoyed the scrumptious dinner in the canteen. The food was very special that day. Amongst the dishes served were “satay”, fried rice, chicken curry, fried noodles, lychee water and some sweetmeats.
After the dinner, the party began. This Year-end Party had a theme called “Never Ending Story” and was held in the school’s capacious hall. My friends and I applied make-up at backstage. We were excited but apprehensive because for most of us it was the first time dancing on the stage.
Before the stage curtain opened, I shook hands with my partner to be more confident. When I was dancing I felt my hand tremble but my friends told me later that I looked very confident.
After the dance, I watched other students’ performances and waited for our next show time at 9.45pm.
After about 10 o’clock, we danced on the stage using an ultraman mask each. We looked splendid in our fanciful outfits. All the students danced with us. We danced again and again. Everyone in the hall felt happy while dancing. We also took photos on stage.
We played until 10.30pm; them we cleaned the hall. We kept the piano and swept the floor. After cleaning, my partner realized her camera was lost. We looked every where for it but we did not find it. At last we found it; someone had kept it safely for her without informing her.
After the party, we continued taking photographs. We felt happy that day although we were thirsty and exhausted. Before we went back we danced at the basketball court. At 12 precisely we went back to our own rooms.
That day, I felt happy because I learned a lot that day; I learned to be confident, to make friends, time management, not to be lazy, love our country and be brave to protect our culture. I hope this is not the only happiest day in my life. I can be happier other days too.
