A trip to Kuala Lumpur.

Few days ago, I had a trip to Kuala Lumpur with my family. That day was a Selangor State holiday—my sister had to meet her friends at the “Pudu Raya” early in the morning because she was going on a trip to Pangkor Island with her friends. So my father decided to make a trip to Kuala Lumpur to bring my sister to the Pudu Raya Bus Station.

That morning, the sky was dull, cloudy and a cold morning. However, we were in a good mood that morning. We were caught in a massive traffic jam. We thought there was an accident that caused this traffic jam but it was not. It was because the police set road-blocks on the highway causing this traffic jam.

After the first jam, we encountered another traffic jam. So we took a different route, but here too we met a massive traffic jam. The police tried to stop the demonstrators from taking part in the rally. I think this is not a right solution to stop the rally. They did not stop the rally and they only caused traffic jams. My nervous sister told her most of them were also caught in the traffic jams.

After bringing my sister to the bus station, we went to the “Taman Tasik Perdana”. We saw many road-blocks and many policemen all over. I felt like I was entering a police state of emergency there were police every where. I also saw riot police equipment and a lorry of riot police standby near the park. They wore red.

I had a lot of confused thought. My state of mind at that time was like a cat on hot bricks. I felt my country was like a totalitarian country, but it was not! We boast of democracy, and have a monarch. We should be allowed to protest and show what or why we think it is wrong or unfair. Why did our government stop the demonstration? Today, the news headlines were “ISA for five”. How could this happen in a democratic country?

After playing at the park we took our breakfast in Petaling Street. We enjoyed our “Dim Sum” at an old shop called “Yoke Wu Hin”. After breakfast, we went to a market in Petaling Street. The market was located at a small route between the shops. We saw butchers selling pork and chicken. There were life chickens there; the butchers killed the chicken on the spot there to keep them fresh. We bought chicken, pork, vegetables and fish there. There were many people in the market, called “Chong Hwa Route Market”.

I hope my country will not become a police state or a totalitarian country. If you ask me, “Can our government let them march or demonstrate peacefully?” I will answer, “Why not? Our country has been independent for 50 Years!”
